Exterior House Painting on the Connecticut Shoreline
I’ve painted the exteriors of hundreds of homes along the Connecticut Shoreline, and I’ll tell you what I’ve learned: this climate does not forgive a poor paint job. Salt spray off the Sound, the humidity in the river valleys, the freeze-thaw cycles every winter. All of it finds the weak spots. Peeling edges, missed primer, inadequate caulking. That’s where water gets in, and that’s where paint fails at year two instead of year eight.
I’ve been a third-generation painter my whole life. My grandfather taught my father, my father taught me, and I’ve spent 35+ years in the field learning what these specific conditions demand. When my crew shows up, the prep gets done right. Every time.

Our Process
What Happens Before We Open a Can of Paint
-
Step 01
Free Estimate
I come out personally, walk the property, and look at every surface. I’ll flag anything that needs special attention (rot, failing caulk, areas that need extra primer) before we agree on a price. No surprises later.
-
Step 02
Power Washing
Every exterior job starts with a thorough wash. Paint applied over salt residue, mold, or dirt won’t bond. We wash first, period.
-
Step 03
Scraping, Sanding & Caulking
We remove all failing paint, sand edges smooth, fill gaps and cracks with exterior-grade caulk, and address any wood damage we find. This is the step a lot of painters rush through. We don’t.
-
Step 04
Priming
Bare wood and problem areas get primed before we paint. Primer is what makes paint stick and last. Skipping it is how you end up calling someone back in two years.
-
Step 05
Paint Application
Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore exterior lines, exclusively. Most projects get two coats. We pick the right finish and formulation for each surface.
-
Step 06
Cleanup & Walkthrough
We clean up completely and walk the job with you before we pack up. If something isn’t right, we fix it before we leave.
Common Questions
How long will an exterior paint job last on the CT Shoreline?
Done right (proper prep, quality paint, two coats) you should get 6 to 10 years. Homes right on the water may see fading a bit sooner. I always recommend a quick annual check so you catch anything small before it becomes a bigger issue.
What’s the best time of year for exterior painting in Connecticut?
Late spring through early fall. May through October. Paint needs temperatures above 50°F and dry conditions to cure properly. I keep an eye on the forecast and reschedule around weather if needed.
Is power washing included?
Yes, always. It’s part of the prep and there’s no extra charge. I won’t apply paint to a surface that hasn’t been properly cleaned first.
Do I need to be home during the project?
You don’t need to be there every day. I ask that someone is available for the initial walkthrough and the final sign-off. I’ll keep you updated throughout so you always know where things stand.
Can you match my existing color?
Yes. Bring me a chip, a photo, or a sample and I can match it through Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore. If you’re looking to change, I’m happy to help.
